Tiger mosquito, no thanks !

Tiger mosquito, no thanks !
Protect against the tiger mosquito : a simple gesture for our health and our environment

With the arrival of warm weather, a small intruder is increasingly settling on our balconies, gardens and living spaces : the tiger mosquito. Recognisable by its black and white stripes, this mosquito is not only annoying for its bites — it can also be a carrier of exotic diseases.

The good news is that each of us can act ! Let's stay vigilant and adopt the right reflexes to limit its proliferation.

How to identify it ?

Size : small (about 5 mm)
Colour : black and white striped body
Distinctive feature : white line on the back

How to prevent its proliferation ?

To prevent the proliferation of tiger mosquitoes and limit public health risks, adopt these gestures :

  • Put away objects (watering can, bucket, saucer, tarp, toy, tyre, etc.) that may serve as containers.
  • Turn over all unused pots or containers.
  • Empty containers holding water at least once a week.
  • If possible, fill the saucers of flower pots with sand to prevent the presence of water.
  • Avoid insecticides that kill the tiger mosquito's predators.

What to do if you spot one ?

  • Capture it if possible (closed jar, without crushing it).
  • Take a clear photo.
  • Report its presence on moustiques-suisse.ch, the official Swiss platform dedicated to these invasive insects.
